The challenge

What gets in the way of delivery apps

Four problems that food, grocery and parcel apps face when orders scale across cities and countries.

What gets in the way

  • Cash on deliveryWhen customers pay couriers in cash, the app has to collect its commission back from thousands of couriers, and the ledger never quite closes.
  • Couriers want today’s earnings todayWeekly payout files feel slow to couriers who live on daily income, and they move to the app that pays faster.
  • Restaurants and stores to settleEvery partner banks differently. Wrong account details bounce payments and create support tickets.
  • Refunds for late or missing itemsSmall tickets and frequent refunds make post-sale handling a daily operation, not an exception.

How Localpayment addresses it

  • Card and transfer at checkout, or a personal account for cashCustomers pay in the app with a saved card, Pix, QR or SPEI. For cash orders, couriers settle the commission by transfer to their own virtual account, matched automatically.
  • Payouts that confirm in seconds, 24/7Pay couriers per order, per day or on demand on real-time rails such as Pix, SPEI, COELSA, TEF, CCE, Bre-B and SINPE Móvil, including weekends.
  • Validated accounts and batch payouts to partnersValidate bank accounts and aliases before sending, pay restaurants in batches with double-signature approval, and handle returns through the same API.
  • Refunds from the same APIRefund a pay-in in full or in part, for cards, virtual accounts and local methods, and track every status change with a signed webhook.

Money flow

From order to courier payout

A typical order paid in the app. Your platform decides when each payout is triggered.

  1. 1

    CustomerDelivery app:

    Orders and picks a payment

Saved card, Pix, QR or another local method available in the customer’s country.

  2. 2

    Delivery appLocalpayment:

    Creates the pay-in

One call per order, with your order ID as the external ID.

  3. 3

    CustomerLocalpayment:

    Pays or approves

With the saved card, or in the bank app. Nothing to hand over in cash.

  4. 4

    LocalpaymentDelivery app:

    Webhook: payment approved

Signed with HMAC. Funds are credited to your Localpayment account. Dispatch the order.

  5. 5

    Delivery appLocalpayment:

    Requests the payouts

After delivery, your app calculates the courier and restaurant shares and sends the payouts.

  6. 6

    LocalpaymentCourier or restaurant:

    Pays on a real-time rail

To the partner’s bank account or wallet. On rails such as Pix or SPEI this takes seconds, 24/7.

  7. 7

    LocalpaymentDelivery app:

    Webhook: payout completed

Every status is tracked, with proof of payment for each transfer.

Example flow. For cash orders, couriers can settle the app’s commission by transfer to a personal virtual account instead of handing cash back.

Frequently asked questions

How fast can couriers be paid?

On real-time rails such as Pix, SPEI, COELSA, TEF, CCE, Bre-B and SINPE Móvil, payouts confirm in seconds, 24/7. Other countries settle the same day or T+1.

Can we stop handling cash?

Customers can pay in the app with cards, Pix, QR or a bank transfer. For orders still paid in cash, couriers can settle the commission by transfer to a personal virtual account.

How do we avoid failed payouts?

Verify payout aliases and validate bank accounts before sending, and handle returns through the same API.

How do we fund payouts in several countries?

Fund each payout balance by wire or with USDC or USDT on Ethereum and Tron, and get low-balance alerts before it runs out.

How do refunds work for a late or incomplete order?

Refund the pay-in from the API or the Business Portal, in full or in part, for cards, virtual accounts and local methods. Card chargebacks are managed with evidence upload in the same place.

Do couriers need to be Localpayment customers?

No. Your app is Localpayment’s customer and goes through compliance review once. Couriers and restaurants are your partners: you onboard them, collect their bank or wallet details and send the payouts.

How long does it take to go live in a new country?

You get Stage credentials at the start of the partnership, integrate once and go live in weeks. New countries are added by configuration, with the same pay-in and payout API.
