The challenge

Why course sales stall in Latin America

Four problems that online schools and course marketplaces meet when they enroll students across borders.

What gets in the way

  • Students without an international cardLearners are often younger or unbanked for online card use. A card-only enrollment page rejects the very buyers you want.
  • Large tickets, small budgetsA bootcamp or a certification costs more than a single monthly paycheck for many students. Without installments, they wait or walk away.
  • Refunds and disputes in the trial windowMoney-back periods are standard in education. Each refund and each disputed charge has to be traced back to a student and a course.
  • Paying instructors in many countriesTeachers and partner schools expect local currency in a local account, not a slow cross-border wire at the end of the month.

How Localpayment addresses it

  • Local methods next to local cardsPix, PSE, Bre-B, QR, ETPAY and bank transfers to a virtual account let students enroll from their bank app, with local cards in Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Peru for those who have one.
  • Installments and payment linksSplit large tickets into card installments in Colombia, Mexico and Peru, and send a payment link for cohort offers or sales-assisted enrollments.
  • Refunds traced to the enrollmentEvery pay-in carries your own external ID. Refund in full or in part from the API or the Business Portal, and manage card chargebacks with evidence upload in the same place.
  • Instructor payouts on local railsPay instructors and partner schools to bank accounts in 14 countries or to wallets where available, in batches with double-signature approval and alias verification before the funds leave.

Frequently asked questions

Can students pay in installments?

Yes, with cards in Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Installments are documented for those three markets; other markets use single payments.

How do I pay instructors and partner schools?

With payouts: bank transfers in 14 countries and wallet payouts where available, one by one or in batches from the Business Portal, with double-signature approval.

How are refunds handled?

Refunds are available for cards, virtual accounts and payment methods, and card chargebacks are managed with evidence upload.

Can I sell to students outside my home country?

Yes. Ask the API which methods are available in the student’s country and show them at checkout. New markets are added by configuration, with no reintegration.

Can I keep my course prices in USD?

Yes. Create the charge in USD and the student pays the equivalent in local currency. Funds settle to your Localpayment account, usually in USD, with the rate locked by a quote token within local market hours.

How do I reconcile enrollments and refunds?

Each transaction carries your external ID and every status change arrives as an HMAC-signed webhook. Balance, activity and reconciliation data are available by API, or as reports from the Business Portal.

How fast can we start selling in a new country?

You receive Stage (sandbox) credentials at the start of the partnership and go live in weeks. New markets are enabled by configuration, with the same pay-in and payout API.
