A bank-approved payment method for Chile
ETPAY lets a customer in Chile pay directly from their bank account. The payer reviews the amount and approves the payment in their bank or wallet app; there is no card data to type. With Localpayment you add it to your checkout through the same pay-in API you use in other countries. Confirmation is asynchronous, so the final status reaches you by signed webhook.

What your customer sees with ETPAY
Authorization, limits and refunds as documented on docs.localpayment.com. Limits are shown only where the documentation states them.
How the customer authorizes
The pay-in response returns a redirectUrl. You send the customer to the ETPAY portal, where they choose their bank, log in with their own credentials and approve the transfer for the exact amount. They are then returned to your site, and the final status arrives by webhook. No card data or account numbers are typed into your checkout.
Documented limits
ETPAY (Pay-in): CLP 1 – 7,000,000. Per transaction, as published in the documentation; contractual limits may differ.
Refunds and returns
A completed pay-in can be refunded with PATCH /api/payin/{externalId}/refund. Only full refunds are supported; the money goes back to a bank account of the payer and the transaction ends in status 902 (REFUNDED). While a payment is still pending it can be canceled instead.

History
The rail behind ETPAY: Chile’s instant bank transfers
Sources: Banco Central de Chile, Payment Systems Report 2023–2026 and regulation on low-value clearing houses; Law 21.521 (Fintec).
Instant bank transfers
Chilean banks start processing electronic funds transfers (TEF) as instant payments, with funds available to the receiver immediately. This is the rail an ETPAY payment ultimately runs on.
Fintec Law and payment initiation
Law 21.521 takes effect on 4 January 2023, creating the Open Finance System and recognizing payment initiation services, which let a third party start a transfer from the payer’s bank account with their consent.
Regulated low-value clearing
Under the central bank’s new framework for low-value payment clearing houses, the clearing house that processes TEF operates within the regulated perimeter.
Transfers as a merchant payment method
The central bank announces regulation, for public consultation, to strengthen instant payments and promote TEF as a means of payment in commerce.

FAQ
ETPAY: frequently asked questions
How does an ETPAY payment work?
The customer picks ETPAY at your checkout, you create the pay-in through the Localpayment API and the payer approves the payment in their bank or wallet app. Confirmation is asynchronous: the final status reaches you by signed webhook.
What are the limits?
The documented range is CLP 1 to CLP 7,000,000 per transaction. Confirm your own limits with your account manager.
Which document does the payer need?
In Chile the documented identity document type is the RUT. For larger amounts paid by bank transfer, see TEF virtual accounts, which allow up to CLP 100,000,000 per transaction.
Which banks can the payer choose in ETPAY?
The ETPAY portal lists the main Chilean retail banks. The list is maintained by the rail and published in the documentation; you do not need to hard-code it in your checkout.
Does ETPAY have chargebacks?
No. The payer authorizes a bank transfer in their own online banking, so there is no card-style chargeback. Returns are refunds you initiate.
What happens if the payer abandons the portal?
The pay-in stays pending until it expires, then moves to a final failed status that you receive by webhook. Create a new pay-in if the customer wants to retry.
Which document type does ETPAY require?
The documented identifier is the Chilean RUT. Validate its check digit in your checkout before creating the pay-in.
