The challenge
Where marketplaces struggle in Latin America
Four problems that multi-seller platforms meet as soon as they cross a border.
What gets in the way
- Buyers abandon without their methodEach country has its own preferred way to pay. A checkout without Pix, PSE, a local card or installments loses the sale.
- Who paid for which order and seller?Pooled collections make it hard to attribute each payment to a seller and an order, and reconciliation turns into a monthly project.
- Sellers expect to be paid locally, fastThousands of sellers bank in different countries on different rails. Slow or manual payouts push the best sellers to other platforms.
- Refunds and disputes scatteredRefunds, cancellations and chargebacks across tools make it hard to see what you owe a seller after a return.
How Localpayment addresses it
- The local method at checkout, from one APIPix, PSE, Bre-B, QR, SPEI and cards with installments in Colombia, Mexico and Peru, selected per country from the same pay-in call.
- A virtual account per seller, order or buyerEvery incoming transfer arrives already attributed, with a signed webhook and your external ID, so reconciliation runs continuously.
- Seller payouts on real-time railsPay sellers to banks in 14 countries and wallets in 9, by API or in batches, with double-signature approval and proof of payment.
- Refunds and chargebacks in one placeRefund cards, virtual accounts and local methods, and manage card chargebacks with evidence upload, from the API or the Business Portal.

Frequently asked questions
Can I split a payment between sellers automatically?
Your platform calculates each seller’s share and keeps its commission; you then pay every seller through payouts, by API or in batches. Ask sales if you need a specific split model.
How do I know which seller a transfer belongs to?
Issue a virtual account per seller, order or customer. Every incoming transfer arrives with a webhook already attributed to that account.
Which countries can I pay sellers in?
Bank-transfer payouts reach 14 countries, plus wallet payouts to Yape in Bolivia, SINPE Móvil in Costa Rica and CCE wallets in Peru, or to wallets reachable by bank transfer.
How are refunds and chargebacks handled?
Refunds are available for cards, virtual accounts and payment methods, and card chargebacks are managed with evidence upload, from the API or the Business Portal.
Does each seller need its own KYC with Localpayment?
Your marketplace is Localpayment’s customer and goes through compliance review and business verification once. Sellers are your users: you onboard them under your own rules and keep their bank details for payouts.
How do we pay sellers in another currency than the one we collected?
Collections settle in local currency and can be converted to USD, EUR or another hard currency within local market hours, with a quote token to lock the rate. Payouts are then funded in the destination country.
Are there limits on seller payouts?
Limits depend on the rail and country. Real-time payouts in Peru, for example, run up to PEN 30,000 per transfer; above that the payout settles through the standard rail. Each method page lists its limits.
