What it is

Peru’s interbank rails, in and out

In Peru, accounts are identified by a CCI (interbank account code) and interbank payments run over CCE, with LBTR for higher amounts. With Localpayment you assign each customer a CCI virtual account in PEN or USD and reconcile the credits automatically; pay-ins are asynchronous and confirmed by webhook. For payouts you choose the route by amount: CCE in real time, LBTR same day, or CCE directly to a wallet.

  • CCI virtual accounts in PEN (up to PEN 30,000) and USD (up to USD 10,000)
  • CCE payouts in real time, 24/7, up to PEN 30,000; LBTR same day above PEN 30,000
  • Direct CCE wallet payouts in real time, PEN 1 to 500 (up to PEN 3,000 for Yape)

Consumer experience

What your customer sees with CCI

Authorization, limits and refunds as documented on docs.localpayment.com. Limits are shown only where the documentation states them.

  • How the customer authorizes

Your checkout shows the 20-digit CCI of the virtual account (in PEN or USD) with the beneficiary name. The customer opens their bank app, chooses “transfer to another bank”, enters the CCI and the amount, and confirms. The credit is matched to the account automatically and the final status reaches you by webhook.

  • Documented limits

Virtual account (CCI, PEN) (Pay-in): PEN 1 – 30,000 · Virtual account (CCI, USD) (Pay-in): USD 1 – 10,000 · Bank transfer (CCE) (Payout): Up to PEN 30,000 · Bank transfer (LBTR) (Payout): Above PEN 30,000 · Wallets (CCE, direct) (Payout): PEN 1 – 3,000 (Yape) · PEN 1 – 500 (other wallets). Per transaction, as published in the documentation; contractual limits may differ.

  • Refunds and returns

A credited transfer can be refunded with PATCH /api/payin/{externalId}/refund. Only full refunds are supported and the funds are routed back to the payer’s original account automatically, with no extra beneficiary data. Cash deposits are never credited.

History

From electronic cheque clearing to 24/7 immediate transfers

Sources: Banco Central de Reserva del Perú, payment systems pages and interoperability strategy (Circular 0024-2022-BCRP).

  1. Electronic clearing house

Peru’s electronic clearing house (CCE), regulated and supervised by the central bank, replaces manual cheque clearing with electronic clearing in November 2000.

  2. Interbank transfers

Interbank transfer clearing is added: funds move between accounts at different institutions, identified by their CCI, with deferred settlement.

  3. Immediate transfers

The “Transferencia Inmediata” service launches, crediting interbank transfers in seconds instead of in clearing cycles.

  4. 24/7 operation

Interbank transfers extend their hours to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  5. Interoperability regulation

The central bank issues Circular 0024-2022-BCRP, making payment services interoperable in phases: wallets in 2023, bank apps and QR codes later that year, e-money accounts from December 2023.

  6. 20 million immediate transfers a month

CCE immediate transfers average 20.6 million operations and about PEN 15 billion per month, with a per-transfer limit of roughly USD 10,000.

FAQ

CCI: frequently asked questions

How do CCI pay-ins work and how fast are they confirmed?

Each customer, order or invoice gets a CCI virtual account and pays by transfer from their own bank. Pay-ins are asynchronous: the final status reaches you by signed webhook, so drive your order flow from that notification.

What are the limits?

CCI virtual accounts document up to PEN 30,000 in soles and up to USD 10,000 in dollars. CCE payouts are real-time, 24/7, up to PEN 30,000; the direct CCE wallet payout runs from PEN 1 to 500 (up to PEN 3,000 for Yape). Confirm your own limits with your account manager.

When do payouts use LBTR instead of CCE?

Above PEN 30,000 payouts use LBTR, which settles the same day rather than in real time. You send both routes through the same payout API.

Which documents are accepted in Peru?

The documented document types are DNI, CE, RUC and PASS.

What is a CCI?

The Código de Cuenta Interbancario is Peru’s 20-digit interbank account identifier. Every Localpayment virtual account in Peru returns a CCI, and every payout beneficiary is identified by their CCI.

Does a CCI pay-in have chargebacks?

No. The transfer is a push payment the payer authorizes in their own bank app, so there is no card-style chargeback. Returns are refunds you initiate as a payout to the payer.

How do I pay a wallet directly?

Send POST /api/payout/ with code 0171 and the beneficiary’s mobile number. The direct CCE wallet payout runs in real time for amounts from PEN 1 to 500 (up to PEN 3,000 for Yape).

What are the payout statuses?

100 Received, 101 Locked (passed compliance), 102 In Progress (sent to CCE or LBTR), 200 Completed (credited) and 300 Rejected, each delivered by signed webhook.
