Consumer experience

What your customer sees with Yape

Authorization, limits and refunds as documented on docs.localpayment.com. Limits are shown only where the documentation states them.

  • How the customer authorizes

Nothing is required from the beneficiary. You create the payout with POST /api/payout/ (code 0021) with the beneficiary’s name, document and the mobile number linked to their Yape wallet; if double-signature approval is enabled, a second user approves it in the Business Portal. The beneficiary sees the credit in the wallet and you receive the final status by webhook.

  • Documented limits

Yape (direct wallet) (Payout): BOB 0.01 – 6,875. Per transaction, as published in the documentation; contractual limits may differ.

  • Refunds and returns

If the beneficiary bank rejects a completed payout days later (closed or invalid account), the funds come back to your Localpayment balance and the payout moves to Returned, notified by webhook. A recall for wrong beneficiary data is a manual request to our operations team and is not guaranteed.

History

How Bolivia went digital with interoperable QR and wallets

Sources: Banco Central de Bolivia, Payment System Report 2023 and press release CP60/2024.

  1. QR payments arrive

QR payments start in Bolivia through the clearing and settlement administrator, and the central bank rolls out an interoperable QR scheme progressively from 2021.

  2. One QR standard for the whole system

The Central Bank of Bolivia mandates a common, compatible QR standard across banks, cooperatives and other financial institutions, and full interoperability is reached: any user can pay or collect from any entity.

  3. Wallets scale up

Yape launches in Bolivia and passes one million users in its first month; by 2025 it is the country’s most used mobile wallet.

  4. Explosive growth

The central bank reports that QR payments have grown more than 4,700% in under three years, with quarterly low-value interbank transactions up more than sixfold since 2022.
